JOSEPHINE MARES

EDUCATION

JOSEPHINE MARES attended Babson College for her undergraduate degree. While at Babson, she played on the varsity softball team for all 4 years and walked away with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston. During her time in law school, she became an active member of the school community and co-founded the First Generation Law Student Association. In May of 2022, she graduated from South Texas College of Law Houston cum laude and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas the same year.

BACKGROUND

MS MARES has focused the majority of her practice on defending employers and insurance carriers in matters arising under the Defense Base Act and Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act at a prominent Houston-based firm. Throughout her career, she has been specifically selected by clients to provide highly specialized defenses on specific panels regarding pulmonary injuries, specific Employers, and other highly complex matters. These unique opportunities have allowed her to develop a keen attention to detail,  refine her communication skills to achieve favorable results in each claim, and develop a deep understanding of how to best meet her clients' specific needs.

JOSEPHINE MARES joined the Long Beach office of Samuelsen, Gonzalez, Valenzuela & Brown as an associate attorney in March of 2026. She continues to focus her practice on the defense of claims under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and the Defense Base Act at Samuelsen, Gonzalez, Valenzuela & Brown.
